This charming and cosy home is the perfect retreat from the busyness of everyday life. In keeping with this peaceful atmosphere, we’ve deliberately chosen not to have a TV—instead, we invite you to relax, explore nature, and enjoy the quiet surroundings.
But don’t worry—if you still want to stay connected, there’s excellent broadband throughout the house, so feel free to bring your laptops or tablets for entertainment, streaming, or work.
Whether you’re seeking a digital detox or just a change of pace, our home offers the ideal space to relax and recharge.
It also features a Jack and Jill bathroom shared between the king and single rooms, offering both comfort and convenience for families or small groups.
One of the highlights is the beautiful wrap-around garden, providing plenty of space to relax, play, or enjoy the peaceful surroundings.
Inside, you’ll find a wood-burner stove that adds warmth and character to the living space, but please note that the other fireplaces are not functional. For safety reasons, no BBQs or candles be used during your stay.
The property has two staircases, one of which is quite steep and open on the landing area and as such we feel that the property is not suitable for younger children (under 7). By all means, let us know if you have young children - we are happy to discuss feasibility.

We loved our stay at The Old Cottage. All three generations enjoyed it, and our granddaughter loved being able to run around in the garden and we could relax knowing there were gates to keep her safe. She loved the children's furniture and toys outside in the cart lodge. The cottage had a very well equipped kitchen, the owners seemed to have thought of everything. The location was very quiet and peaceful, yet only 2 miles from Orford. Wonderful to stay in what had obviously been a much loved family home over the generations, with a wonderful big garden. We felt right at home.

We had a beautiful stay at the old cottage. A very spacious accommodation with a lovely big garden which the little one loved running around in! Beds were comfy, place was lovely a clean with everything you could need. Host was very responsive. We had lots of fun with the toy bow and arrow outside

A glorious weekend in Sudbourne. This cottage is even more beautiful than the pictures suggest. An old building, bursting with character and history, but entirely modernised inside with lovely kitchen and bathrooms, fittings and fixtures. We will be back!

We had a wonderful stay at Sebastian’s place. It’s a beautiful thatched cottage with lots of original character. It’s very well decorated inside and well appointed with all we needed to self cater. Due to the age of the house the floors are uneven and stairs are steep, so be aware of this for anyone with mobility issues. The ceilings are low and doors are small, it is dark and cool - this is all perfectly in keeping with the property age and character, and I am very pleased that in the restoration they have kept all the character of the house. It is part of its charm. Sebastian was very considerate in communicating with us about the accessibility’s issues and honest in his description. It’s in a good location for visits to Orford Ness, Snape, Woodbridge, Aldeburgh. It’s rural and very quiet so it’s perfect if you want day trips out and evenings at the house. The garden is large and lovely for meals outside. Highly recommend this property.

The cottage is gorgeous - we stayed for a weekend but wished we’d stayed for weeks! Beautiful place, well looked after, gorgeous garden and kitchen l, just a great place to get away from it all. We will be coming back!

Our holiday in this fascinating old historical house was a unique experience which will stay in our memory for some time. We enjoyed the peaceful atmosphere of this lovely part of Suffolk. On the negative side we found the rooms dull because of the small windows, and lighting is poor (kitchen excepted). We were looking forward to some reading in the evenings (no TV) but even when we rigged up a standard lamp this was difficult; better lighting would be appreciated. In this respect the photos are misleading, showing very bright rooms. The Jack and Jill bathroom was inconvenient at times with mixed age/sex in our family. This did not spoil our enjoyable experience. The spacious grounds were a great asset as was the great array of children's games equipment.

An enchanting period cottage with loads of original features, and a very large garden. Thank you for a wonderful stay!

We loved our 4 nights at The Old Cottage - it’s a beautiful cottage in a lovely quiet village. The cottage itself is comfortable, spacious, well equipped and very homely. There is also a large garden which has a lovely mix of lawn to enjoy and areas for wildlife which is so nice to see (I wish all large gardens were like that!). Great location for walks and day trips out to the Suffolk coast. We’ll definitely be back!

We had a wonderful relaxing, quiet stay at ‘The Old Cottage’ We didn’t miss a TV at all, the weather was wonderful so we spent time in the garden with its diverse areas, it’s an enormous garden. Driving 15 minutes to the beach was a wonderful bonus. Thank you Sebastian for making our stay stress free and smooth. Would definitely stay again.
Thank you for your inquiry! We'll be in touch soon.
